Consumption List for Complete Travel and Lifestyle Inspiration

"We are what we Eat."

You hear it all the time, and it's true. But I think we need a new slogan.

"We are what we consume and surround ourselves with."

Here is a list of books, movies, and shows that I have consumed and have become inspired by -- the content included in this list has changed my life, frankly, and I know it has the potential to change yours.

BOOKS TO READ

Travel

Vagabonding by Rolf Potts

I didn't have the balls to quit my job, sell my shit, and leave the country by accident. Rolf gave me the balls when he wrote THE BIBLE for long-term travelers. It made everything possible. Thank you Rolf for the balls.

My Exile Lifestyle by Colin Wright

Colin Wright travels to a different country every 3 months based on the votes of his readers and is one of the first "digital nomads" to write about his experience with such depth. I was fortunate to meet Colin and stay in his parent's house for one night in Columbia, Missouri

This is a good primer read for anyone who wants to step into the shoes of someone breaking into the uncharted territory of becoming a long-term traveler making money on the road.

MOTIVATIONAL/ENTREPRENEURSHIP

The Flinch by Julien Smith

A verbal kick in the ass. If you don't have inspiration to get up and get after what you truly want after reading this book, stick your head in a trash can. I re-read this book often to ignite any motivation that has been weakened.

The 10x Rule by Grant Cardone

Getting ahead and being successful comes down to one rule...

The Motivation Manifesto by Brendon Burchard

Holy shit. Brendon Burchard can write. And he sure can motivate. Brendon's words reach your core and kickstart the hell out of your ambition like nothing I've ever read before.

Relentless: From Good to Great to Unstoppable

A motivational and practical read on how to harness your true instincts to not just be good, not be great, but to become unstoppable. Tim S. Grover was the official trainer to athletes like Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, and Dwayne Wade, don't let this fact prevent you from reading, as you don't have to be a fan of basketball to get a SHIT TON of value from this book like I did.

Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story by Arnold Schwarzenegger

I had respect for Arnold Schwarzenegger before I read this book, but AFTER reading it I look to him as a true warrior who earned every bit of his success from hard work and opportunistic thinking. I say it a lot, but this is a MUST READ, and like Arnold, is quite entertaining.

Robert Bly investigates and dissects ancient stories told through the ages. He uses themes in these stories to paint a picture of what it means to be a man.

The Way of the Superior Man by David Deida

If you find yourself lost or confused as a man in dealing with relationships, work, and sexuality. This book is your blueprint.

As a Man Thinketh by James Allen

What you think you are, you are. This is a quick read of a book written in the 1800's. An essential to any man's library.

Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer

A true and cautionary story about a headstrong young man who followed his inner voice with pure focus and determination. There are many lessons to be gained from this story.

HEALTH & WELLNESS

The Primal Blueprint by Mark Sisson

If you are American, you are most likely eating and exercising in the completely wrong way. The Primal Blueprint lays it all out and links back correct habits to the days when were a more earthly, caveman-like species.

The Ultramind Solution by Mark Hyman, M.D.

Another book that makes you rethink how and what you eat. With every claim linking back to science, successful physician and author Mark Hyman breaks down why we suffer from chronic disease and how our mind and body are connected more than we think.

The 150 Healthiest Foods on Earth by Jonny Bowden

The two books above are the "Why" & "How" to eat healthy. This book is the comprehensive "What" to eat book. If you are curious as to what foods to ingest and what not to, just pay attention to what is and what isn't in this book.

A hidden gem in this book is the Audio CD that is included. Jonny Bowden enthusiastically shares some nutrition secrets that truly changed me.

The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle

I put this book under Health & Wellness because it truly is a book that has changed my mental health.

Now the book title may lead you to think this is some ultra-spiritual, out-of-this-world read -- and believe me it's hard for me to dive in to books of that sort, but don't get it twisted, the techniques and stories Eckhart shares on becoming present are extremely practical & have helped me focus on this moment. Right...NOW!

FICTION

Siddhartha by Herman Hesse

The Alchemist before the Alchemist was written. A coming-of-age story that will inspire you in traveling and moving toward your inner purpose.

Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk
The life-shifting book that sparked the movie. This book deals with masculinity, materialism, and provoked me (and a whole generation) to think in new ways.

MOVIES TO WATCH

A cult classic featuring Kevin Spacey. Touching on underlying themes of modern materialism, masculinity, and breaking through the mask of society's well defined path to the American Dream.

No explanation needed. Just watch this film if you haven't already. One of those films that I can watch over and over, each viewing completely different from the next.

A story set in the era of the Mayans. The main character endures a grueling test of his masculinity, fatherhood, and sheer will.

Are you selling? Or are you being sold?

No words I could write could do this film justice.

Anthony Bourdain captures the best aspects of travel: food, culture, people, and new places.

3 friends, 1 camera. They quit their jobs to travel the world for a year, visiting a new country every episode. The dynamic between the 2 main friends really makes this show worth it.

If I were a movie. If I were physically born as a movie...I would be 180 South.

A man, inspired by the story of outdoor gear company Patagonia, sets off on a journey to Patagonia unlike none other.
