The Future: July 10th, 2015 9AM EST
This is it. No turning back. By this time I will have quit my job. By 9AM July 10th, 2015 I will have sold the majority of my possessions. By this tenth day of July, I will be setting foot to California from Florida. Once there, I will fly to Hawaii to work on an organic farm. Thumbs up. I will be hitch-hiking the whole way.
hitch-hiking: to get a ride in a passing vehicle by holding out your arm with your thumb up as you stand on the side of the road. Reserved for those who are fucking crazy. Why are you doing this again?
If success is measured by how many people stare blankly at your face as you tell them your summer plans, then I am Bill Gates. Yes, I'll be hitchhiking. Yes, Ill be camping out on the side of the road, behind gas stations, near interstates. Yes, I know it will be hot, dangerous, and unpredictable at times. What are you doing this summer?
"Burn the boats."
The commander said this to his men, in legend of course, as they approached a hostile island gearing for war. This directive solidified fates. It split the course of these men's lives into two directions only. Conquer or be conquered. Fight or parish. Burn the ancient ships they rode in on and face fears, no surrender.
Now, I'm playing to a drastic chord...but you could say there are parallels with what I am doing with my life, my career, my future. Burning the boats. Selling most of everything I own, stuffing the rest in a backpack and taking off. Relying solely on skill and wit. Not knowing what's next.
Not knowing what's next. The reason why I do it.
